Using the same Start and Finish area as the 10km and 20km competitors, the Marathon runners will leave the 10km route at the 4th km mark. They will then follow the "Loire a Velo" cycle track, running along the Cher river up to Savonnieres. The course then enters the Château of Villandry. The runners will cross the half-marathon's mark while discovering the magnificent French formal gardens also called "Jardins a la Francaise".
Back onto the banks of the Loire, which is known as the Royal River, the runners will continue through Berthenay, Saint Genouph and La Riche for a magical arrival in Tours, at the Place Anatole France.
The race course has no particular difficulties, is suitable for record attempts and is accessible to athletes with disabilities...
Bikes are strickly forbidden on the race track. For its second edition, some changes might be expected along the way, between Villandry and Tours. Soon you’ll discover our 2015 race map.
Departure / Arrival
The Organizing committee, the city of Tours, Tours Plus, the Region Centre and the Conseil General d’Indre et Loire have all decided to make this race a “Green and sustainable event”. Indeed, the Touraine Loire Valley Marathon is located in a very sensitive area, including the banks of the Loire and Cher rivers, both part of Unesco’s World Heritage. For this reason, waste sorting and recycling will be one of this year’s priorities.
In order for all of us to participate, follow the Golden rules and become a Green Runner !
- “I run, I drink, I sort” Please use dedicated recycling bins located along the race. Do not throw anything in nature.
- We encourage all attendees to walk, bike or carpool to the event.
- Please respect everybody along the race…other runners, organizers or volunteers.
- Do not use any artificial substances that might affect your physical or mental capacities during the race.
- Please sort your waste using the appropriate containers along the the race.
Our commitment to hold a sustainable event
The Committee has signed the quality label established by the City of Tours for a sustainable race (« Protocole des manifestations durables ») based on the implementation of concrete actions following five major principles :
- Act sustainably
- Preserve the heritage
- Participate to local dynamism
- Be solidary and exemplary
- Evaluate the impact of the event
We are also member of the label created by the the Loire valley Council "Région Centre" for eco-friendly events.
Please, help us preserve this wonderful environment registered on the UNESCO world heritage list.

2. DOWNLOAD YOUR WEEKLY TRAINING PROGRAM FOR FREE
Our two coaches Philippe Chaput and David Ramard have designed a free training programme. This includes 2 training sessions a week from week 10to week 8 and then 3 training sessions a week until the day of the race. This training programme is conceived for runners who already have some experience of road races, and who are in good physical condition.
It is important that you listen to your body at all times. Consider training on different types of road surface and in different environments, for example on tarmac in towns and open spaces, country tracks etc... Do not go over the planned training session, even if it feels like an easy one. Do not add any other exercises and feel free to moderate the planning according to your level of fatigue.
Running pace guidelines are given as a reference but try to check your own times and distances on a running track and above all, don't forget to see your doctor in order to obtain a medical certificate stating your fitness to run.
Keep an eye on the weather conditions when planning your training, and avoid the monotony of sticking to the same circuit by varying your routes - by making your running interesting, you will find it easier to succeed!
